BITES: MARCO BOSCARINO'S NATURAL AMPLIFIER SCULPTS SOUND

While studying industrial design in Italy, Marco Boscarino was struck by local, traditional stone-based production methods and architecture. Combining these influences, he produced the Sonus, a limestone object d’art, which doubles as a smartphone amplifier. The piece uses limestone’s reflective capabilities to amplify audio without the need to plug in – simply pop your smartphone in the crevasse at the top (sans messy cables) and press play. Its conical shape, openings and reflective dish provide 360-degree audio at an easy-listening volume. The result is an attractive package, combining Italian sculptural influences with a unique auditory experience.
